New thing not a song but a thing
Sometimes I write and as it goes on and on and I think that if it carried on that way it would stop being a song and be a ‘thing’. Maybe before it’s a song it’s a ‘thing’, and then beyond a song is another ‘thing’. This is from this week and I will sort it out I promise as it’s obviously not right or finished or anything but it’s what I...

CALL IT FOLK
‘The Great Park is in real life Stephen Burch. His songs can be hauntingly beautiful, especially when the vocals, storyline, and ambiance work in tandem to deliver the “whole package”, as in the song “The Royal Canal”. The beautiful violin-playing from Martha Rose adds so much to the feel. This is his latest album, recorded in Ireland and Berlin and featuring Martha...
12 angry men.
Frosty, snowy walk with the dogs down the lane and back again. Horses slipping on ice on way towards field. Donkey with crow on his back.
RT @everetttrue: I see RATM are threatening to play the UK next year if they reach Number One. Enough’s enough. I’m downloading the X Fa …

We have one-eyed Jill staying with us for the night. Fair breaks the heart she does.
ok, 8 songs, some horrible things - no title yet - morning always best for writing, evening best for recording.
Christmas tree taking it’s time to decorate itself.
Recorded first version of new album - 7 songs, a cozy 22 minutes..
now that’s how to build a fire. come on dogs, get a load of this…
Started
Started putting the pieces of things together on the same pages this morning, possibly seven new songs that feel as if from here they will write themselves. This may not be the case, but I’m trying not to agonise too much over things if I can help it. Expect sloppy, sound-the-same short things - if you’re expecting anything at all.
The room where I want to record is cold and...
Just actually had the chance to shout ‘shut that gate and keep it shut!’. Fairly pleased with myself.
Free mp3 of King James and the room singing in Brighton on the 4th of December: http://www.woodlandrecordings.com/news.html
The album needs a title, that’s what’s holding me up I think.

Nice words about my stuff and the work of people I’d call friends.
Winter sun, more squeaking from the coal burner kettle, cold room upstairs with microphone and scribbled word pages waiting.

More lyrics are up on the website here, including these from the ‘We Could Have, We Should Have, We Didn’t’ album:
SEVEN WAVES
WELL WE WALKED A WAYS AND THEN WE WALKED SOME MORE SO FAR SO LOST AND NOT NEARLY THERE ON A CALM WELSH HILLSIDE BY A TINY POOR CHAPEL WE LAID DOWN HAPPY AND TIRED AND YOU SAID SHALL I BUILD US BOTH A WARMING FIRE OUT OF WOOD FROM THE BOATS DOWN ON THE...
Wood burner in kitchen, kettle atop squeaking, dogs napping, morning sun out.
