A friend of mine does a very worthy thing, and spends his days creating open-source multimedia software for an organisation named Sourcefabric. One of their projects is the non-for-profit, open sourceAirtime Propackage- making life easy for independent radio stations around the globe.
They’re currently holding a contest ending this week, to select ten tracks that will be built into Airtime Pro as demos as part of the start-up kit. I’ve chosen a track (‘Diego, Diego’) to enter as it refers to a true story that I think deserves to be heard.
It’s not often I admit it, but I hail from Crawley, Sussex UK. There is a significant population of extradited Diego Garcians based there, and during a chance flick through the local newspaper on a visit to my ma and pa a couple of years ago I came across an article detailing their plight that really moved me deeply. Hencewith was born ‘Diego, Diego’ and I’ve kept the creased and faded cut-out, folded neatly amongst old love-letters and photos of my grandparents ever since.
The UK Chagos Support Asociation also have a website, which you can find here.
‘Diego, Diego’ is from the now sold out ’Patryoska’ (The Woolshop Productions, 2001) which is DUE FOR RE-RELEASE any time soon in Russia, on cassette,
through Full of Nothing. ’Patryoska (re-release)’ is just one of several smaller scale releases due out in the next month or two whilst ‘The Bird School for Being Human’ is now in the mix, readying for hatching. Keep your eyes peeled, news here as it comes… xx
Fee Reega is after some shows in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France - anywhere it seems. June and July - get in touch with her at her site here. For a start here’s the poster for Stuttgart on the 03.03.12.
Fee’s song played in Roskilde in December to a room of about 6 people I think. Thanks to Dave for the upload. I’m trying to go back to Denmark in April - if anyone can help in any way with a show please get in touch. (stephenjburch@gmail.com)
Certain kind and informative folk have let me know they cannot see gigs on my website (which is most definitely a work-in-progress) or on facespace (which i have no idea/no intention about trying to correct).
